What happens when someone who studies the brain suddenly becomes the patient?
10 April 2026
The Synapses Club at Radboud University, a member of NeurotechEU, is organising an online seminar on 20 April at 16:00 CET. Delivered by Esra de Ruiter, a Master’s student in Cognitive Neuroscience, this seminar will explore what it is like to experience neurological symptoms first-hand that, until then, she had only encountered in textbooks.
Following an accident that resulted in a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Ruiter will combine her personal experience with neuroscience to offer a unique perspective on brain injuries. Through her story, as well as her own MRI, fMRI, and eye-tracking data, she reveals the reality of living with a brain injury that she had previously only studied in theory.
